November 2011
A Blustery Day at the Rotary Mundaring’s Sunday Markets
Mundaring Community Financial Services Ltd provides a market stall at the Rotary Club of Mundaring’s Mundaring Sunday Market on the second Sunday of each month for not for profit community groups connected with the Bendigo Bank. A Marquee was provided free and we were able to provide our promotional photos and literature to interest the public.
Currently Mundaring has not been exposed to the Soroptimists and we were eager to make the community aware of our objectives so on the 13th November, 2011 we set up our stall surrounded by craft and artifact stalls.
The weather was rather unpredictable but the customers were extremely interested in our projects, advocacy and action. We handed out brochures and encouraged people to be on our mailing list to learn more .
Soroptimist Members Kerry Bastian, Glenys Liddelow , Vivien Kamen and President Rosalie Gordon volunteered for the day and enjoyed the interaction with the Community and were able to provide information while at the same time collected donations for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Planning For 2012
In November each year we hold our planning meeting to determine projects that our club will support in the coming year. At this time we also set budgets and discuss possible events that we could hold during the year to raise the funds for our nominated projects.
We refer to our Programme Goals to see how proposed projects fit in with improving the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities.
Our projects aim to help women and girls at local and international levels.
We also aim to be a global voice for increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls so some of our projects are about creating awareness around issues affecting them.

Kalamunda Zig Zag Community Arts Festival
Soroptimist International of Helena were asked by Lyn Harris and Gail Campbell (from the Shire of Kalamunda ) to assist again this year with the Zig Zag Festival in Stirk Park with the marshalling of the various Floats at 5.30 pm as they proceeded down Kalamunda Road, and to hold a Marketing Stall.
Pirates in the Park was the theme for this year and one of our members thoroughly threw herself into the role and was a very fearful Pirate indeed!!.
Our Stall was located in a good position along the main thoroughfare into the Park hence many people stopped to enquire about our Projects , and to view the impressive photographic display boards; and to discuss the objectives of Soroptimist international.
True to Festival feeling the procession was headed up with the Scottish Bagpipe Band and a young girl magnificently walking along in stilts playing the crowd. The assortment of Floats had some very excited little Pirates dressed in an array of costumes in step and out of step along the route but all having great fun.
Once we had discharged our duties of marshalling all the Floats our SI Members followed up the rear with our placards, each member carrying a separate message - Awareness, Advocacy and Action; Leadership; Education; Global Voting; Empowerment; and our main Soroptimist International Banner carried by our President . We appealed to the generosity of the street crowds by collecting money for the Royal Flying Doctor Association, and many supported us as we walked along…
